Raven's test

One of the tests for the level of intelligence is the Raven test - method of testing IQ, developed in 1936 by J.. Raven and L. Penrose, on the basis of the study of the traditions of intelligence adopted in the UK. This test is based on an optimal, in the opinion of many scholars, the principle of matching abstract shapes and is used in the method of progressive matrices Raven, which helps to determine the level of intellectual development of people of different age groups. At the same time address the non-verbal component of intelligence. There are three types of progressive matrices Raven:

- Color (children from 4 ½ to 9 years of age and people who have developmental disorders);

- Standard (8-14 and 20-65 years);

- Advanced (applicable for those whose intelligence is above average).

Feature of the Raven test is that it can be passed, regardless of the knowledge of a language, speaking skills, cultural and social characteristics. This is due to the fact that the tests were originally developed for the treatment of simple, unambiguous interpretation, suitable for testing large numbers of people, not only for laboratory research. Raven's test made it possible to minimize the impact of socio-cultural differences between people, their experience and level of education. The decision is given 20 minutes: During this time the subject has to give the correct answers to the greatest possible number of jobs that are calculated at the end of the allotted time. Sometimes a time limit is placed on the whole test of 60 problems, then the results are given according to the table. Such a test for IQ level will free  one of five levels: very high intelligence to deep defect IQ. The results obtained form several estimates, which receives the one who passed the test. First - on a scale of 10 points, which simply refers to how many jobs he decided correctly. The second is formed of a maximum 19 points based on the complexity of solving the problem. Then - on a five-point, as well as a qualitative assessment of the speed of solving problems (regardless of the correct answer).
